Viasat SB2+ replacement modem will not activate

Separate the Wi-Fi, software-update and customer activation stages for an authorized U.S. SB2-to-SB2+ replacement.

Applies to: U.S. residential Viasat WiFi Modem / SurfBeam 2+ replacement supplied with the provider’s self-install paperwork. This guide is for an authorized SB2-to-SB2+ replacement after the existing dish installation, not a new dish, business modem, SurfBeam 2 RM4100/RM4200 or Wi-Fi Gateway 3. Match both the label and your work order before entering installation settings.

Blue light, activation unfinishedOnce the supplied installation has reached the documented blue/online state and finished its automatic update, use the official install.viasat.com portal in your paperwork. Select Customer, sign into your own MyViasat account, and confirm that the offered replacement type is Residential – SB2 to SB2+ and the country is United States. Compare displayed account/equipment details before confirming installation. Do not choose a technician role or another country to bypass a rejected order.
Brief red after updateTreat local Wi-Fi, satellite/software connection and account activation as three separate stages. Joining the label’s Wi-Fi network does not activate the replacement. In this installation guide solid blue indicates online; blinking blue occurs during software download, followed by a brief red light and an automatic reboot. Do not judge a brief update-stage red light as a permanent failure, or interrupt an update just to restart the sequence.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm the authorized replacement

U.S. residential Viasat WiFi Modem / SurfBeam 2+ replacement supplied with the provider’s self-install paperwork. This guide is for an authorized SB2-to-SB2+ replacement after the existing dish installation, not a new dish, business modem, SurfBeam 2 RM4100/RM4200 or Wi-Fi Gateway 3. Match both the label and your work order before entering installation settings.

What the result means: A retail modem is not automatically provisioned to your account.

  2. Let the software stage finish

Treat local Wi-Fi, satellite/software connection and account activation as three separate stages.

What the result means: Do not repeatedly power-cycle an updating modem.

  3. Verify the customer activation screen

Once the supplied installation has reached the documented blue/online state and finished its automatic update, use the official install.viasat.com portal in your paperwork. Select Customer, sign into your own MyViasat account, and confirm that the offered replacement type is Residential – SB2 to SB2+ and the country is United States. Compare displayed account/equipment details before confirming installation. Do not choose a technician role or another country to bypass a rejected order.

What the result means: Keep the supplied Beam Key, Service Activation Code or work-order information, Installer ID and modem MAC address private. These are provider-issued details, not values to copy from a forum or invent. Use only your own MyViasat login and paperwork. If the order does not match the replacement or any required field is missing, stop at that stage and ask Viasat to verify the order.

  4. Confirm success or record the failed stage

The guide allows up to five minutes at Service Activation Status and shows a Congratulations/service-active screen on success. Allow the automatic restart to finish, then test an ordinary website once. If the page remains pending or errors, record its exact stage and message and contact Viasat rather than repeatedly submitting the work order. A successful activation with only the home Wi-Fi missing belongs to the separate Wi-Fi/router guide.

What the result means: Do not change country or invent order fields to get past an error.

When to stop and get help

Do not reuse the old modem’s power supply, disconnect powered dish coax, alter dish alignment or factory-reset to bypass activation. Do not unplug during the software update. If installation needs cable, power or outdoor work, use Viasat’s authorized installer/support instead. Stop immediately for heat, damage or moisture.

What to tell support

Record the exact modem label, current light sequence, screen title, error and time spent at that stage. Share sensitive order details only through Viasat’s official private support.

Common questions

Does blue mean my replacement is activated?

Not by itself in the replacement workflow. Confirm the separate service-active screen and normal browsing; the modem can reach the satellite/software stage before account activation finishes.

Why did the modem Wi-Fi disappear after bridge mode?

Bridge mode can disable the modem’s Wi-Fi. Use the separate router/Wi-Fi guide rather than repeating a completed activation or resetting the modem.
