KVH TracVision TV1 keeps searching or shows no TV

Read TV-Hub status, distinguish sky blockage from receiver setup, and know which faults need KVH service.

Applies to: TracVision TV1 marine TV antenna with TV-Hub as documented in KVH User’s Guide revision C. Other TV1 generations or RV1 may differ.

Work through these checks

  1. Read TV-Hub before touching equipment

The official TV1 guide says the web Home page and three front lights show system status. Normal operation has three solid green lights. The page distinguishes Searching, Tracking, Initializing, Idle and Error. Record all three lights and click any warning indicator to read its numbered message. Do not mistake a startup flash for a persistent fault; do not power off while all lights alternate orange during a software update, which the guide says can take up to 40 minutes.

What the result means: A code is more useful to support than “no signal.”

  2. Separate searching from tracking

If the antenna continuously searches, look from a safe place for sky obstruction, severe weather and whether your selected satellite covers the vessel’s current position. KVH also notes that the chosen satellite can be outside the antenna’s elevation range. If TV-Hub reports Tracking, the antenna has a lock; then compare the receiver’s satellite/service configuration, selected channels and TV input. A tracking antenna does not prove the subscription or receiver is configured correctly.

What the result means: Do not turn or realign a stabilized antenna while underway.

  3. Escalate coded or power faults

For a persistent orange/red light, save the code and TV-Hub Support > System Info, including serial number and software version. The manual lists error 100/101/131 for RF1 power feed and many motor/gyro faults that need KVH. Do not test the powered cable or remove the radome. KVH says certified technicians have the tools for system faults. If normal lights and settings still leave the problem unresolved, share the status, location and weather with KVH or its certified service network.

What the result means: Never enable remote diagnostics unless KVH support specifically requests it.

When to stop and get help

Stop for red power/antenna errors, RF1 shorts, wet or damaged wiring, radome opening, motor/gyro work, or unsafe vessel access. Never power-cycle during a software update. Contact KVH-certified service.

What to tell support

TV1/TV-Hub revision and serial numbers, three light states, Home page status, error code, selected satellite, receiver/provider, location, weather and software version.

Common questions

Does Tracking mean the receiver must show channels?

No. It reports antenna lock, while the receiver can still be on a wrong service or satellite setting or have an account problem.

Can I restart the TV-Hub during orange lights?

Not if all three alternate orange: the manual says that indicates an update. Wait until it finishes; KVH warns it can take 40 minutes.
