Applies to: Thuraya One Android dual-mode handset, using the original TSSUserGuide_final guide and February 2025 satellite tips. The guide does not print a revision identifier. These instructions do not apply to X5-Touch, XT-PRO DUAL or SatSleeve hardware.
Work through these checks
Check which service is selected
Read Settings > Network & internet > SIMs and confirm the intended Thuraya SIM is assigned to SAT, not merely GSM roaming. The guide allows SAT and GSM to be enabled separately. If only one call option appears, compare the enabled modes before assuming that the satellite radio has failed. Do not change a managed phone’s service choice without authorization.
Separate satellite readiness from signal bars
Fully extend the SAT antenna and use SatFinder if you need the satellite direction. Keep an unobstructed outdoor view and maintain the direction when lifting the phone. The guide says an exclamation mark can mean location update or network search is unfinished: wait for it to disappear before calls or messages. If readiness never completes, record the icon and location for the provider; a working cellular call is a separate result.
Check the outgoing path and message type
SAT actions are blue and cellular actions green in this guide. Check the chosen call/message button and any saved per-contact calling preference. For messages, an attachment turns the message into MMS, which the guide supports only in cellular mode with mobile data. Do not diagnose a failed SAT attachment as a broken antenna. Report whether plain SAT SMS, SAT voice or only the cellular attachment path is affected, without generating repeated chargeable tests.
When to stop and get help
Stop if the phone is damaged, unsafe to use or requests an unknown PIN/PUK. Do not guess credentials, open the handset, force the antenna or test emergency calls. Use authorized service for physical faults; repeated chargeable calls are not a substitute for recording the exact network state.
What to tell support
Keep the phone/software identity, selected SAT/GSM modes, readiness icon, time, place, exact error and affected service. Share account and SIM identifiers privately with the provider. Preserve contacts and settings; a factory reset is not the starting check.
