Satellite TV / Detailed guide

Astro Ultra / Ulti SCNA: check satellite signal safely

Separate SCNA from NCNA and TV-input faults. Check weather, Astro diagnostics and safe indoor cables before requesting qualified service.

Applies to: Astro Ultra and Ulti satellite installations in Malaysia. Plug & Play/IP installations use a different delivery path: do not change installation mode to clear an error. The Ultra PDFs are older editions; current support articles control the troubleshooting path, not historical prices or promised future features.

What you seeWhat to do next
SCNA in an Astro menuIf SCNA began in heavy rain, stay indoors and recheck the same channel when conditions improve. Do not align the dish during bad weather. In clear weather, compare several subscribed channels and note whether all or only some fail; a partial-channel fault may need Astro’s separate frequency/software checks.
NCNA or no Astro menuRead the whole on-screen message. SCNA is a satellite-reception path; NCNA is a network path. A television-generated “No signal” with no Astro menu is an HDMI/input problem. Confirm whether your subscription was installed for satellite, IPTV or Plug & Play before touching any cable.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm the reception path and weather

If SCNA began in heavy rain, stay indoors and recheck the same channel when conditions improve. Do not align the dish during bad weather. In clear weather, compare several subscribed channels and note whether all or only some fail; a partial-channel fault may need Astro’s separate frequency/software checks.

What the result means: Retry the same subscribed channel and compare the message and diagnostic reading. If it persists, save the General/STB Diagnostics image for authenticated Astro support. For a centralized apartment or condo dish, contact building management first. Do not factory-reset, alter satellite parameters or buy an LNB solely from this error.

  2. Read Satellite Diagnostics

Open Home → Settings → Satellite Settings → Diagnostics. Record the displayed signal strength without changing frequency, LNB or installation settings. Astro’s current article directs readings of 65 or higher to support with a screenshot; a high number alone does not prove the channel entitlement or the full system is healthy. Below 65, use the safe cable check next.

  3. Check only the safe indoor satellite connection

Only for a dry, undamaged satellite installation with an easily reached indoor SAT IN connection: switch the box off and confirm the adapter light is off before reseating that existing coax connector. Reconnect securely without tools or force, restore power and allow five minutes before retesting. Do not disturb shared splitters, wall wiring or outdoor equipment. Skip this check if access or wiring is unsafe.

When to stop and get help

Stop for roof access, damaged or wet wiring, burning smells or abnormal heat. Do not open the receiver, adapter or dish equipment. In Malaysia, arrange qualified help through Astro or building management; FixSatellite’s in-person technician matching currently covers the United States only.

What to tell support

Save the box model, satellite or IP installation, weather, all-versus-some channel pattern, diagnostic value and result after the safe cable check. Tell support if a building-wide shared dish is involved. A source link checked today is not evidence of a physically tested repair.

Common questions

Should I switch to IP installation to fix SCNA?

No. Satellite, IPTV and Plug & Play are provisioned differently. Do not change installation type, dish configuration or software parameters as a trial. Astro can confirm the correct delivery path and any eligible Continuous Viewing option.
