IsatPhone Pro searching satellite: GPS, reception and legacy checks

Check the legacy Pro’s readiness, official routine test and account before considering firmware or replacement.

Applies to: This is the older IsatPhone Pro, not IsatPhone 2 or 2.1. Viasat records end of sales/support in October 2019. Existing service may still operate with the right SIM and subscription, but the old manual is not a promise of new repairs, accessories or modern software support.

Searching satellite or GPS pendingAt a safe outdoor location, extend the antenna and keep an unobstructed view toward the satellite. Look for Inmarsat and Ready for service, at least two signal bars, and completion of the GPS fix. GPS positioning and satellite registration are separate conditions; a GPS icon alone does not prove a call can connect.
Ready but calls failWhen ready, use Viasat’s published non-emergency test number +870 776 999 999. It is identified as a free IsatPhone Pro test call on the support page. Record the outcome rather than repeatedly calling people or emergency numbers. A failed test with good reception needs SIM provisioning, balance and account checks by your airtime provider.

Work through these checks

  1. Establish reception and GPS readiness

At a safe outdoor location, extend the antenna and keep an unobstructed view toward the satellite. Look for Inmarsat and Ready for service, at least two signal bars, and completion of the GPS fix. GPS positioning and satellite registration are separate conditions; a GPS icon alone does not prove a call can connect.

What the result means: Use Help for the handset’s on-screen pointing guidance; do not open or modify its antenna.

  2. Use the routine test and account path

When ready, use Viasat’s published non-emergency test number +870 776 999 999. It is identified as a free IsatPhone Pro test call on the support page. Record the outcome rather than repeatedly calling people or emergency numbers. A failed test with good reception needs SIM provisioning, balance and account checks by your airtime provider.

What the result means: Do not guess a SIM PIN or unblock code. Ask the provider if the account or SIM is restricted.

  3. Record the legacy firmware context

Read Menu > Settings > About > Firmware version without changing it. The official 2017 briefing lists 5.17.2 and requires existing version 3.0.2 or later for that upgrade path. Ask your provider about the legacy unit and current computer compatibility before any firmware work; do not use IsatPhone 2 packages or downgrade files.

What the result means: This is the older IsatPhone Pro, not IsatPhone 2 or 2.1. Viasat records end of sales/support in October 2019. Existing service may still operate with the right SIM and subscription, but the old manual is not a promise of new repairs, accessories or modern software support.

When to stop and get help

Persistent failure needs your airtime supplier’s assessment. No unauthorized radio repair, random firmware or emergency-number test. For actual urgent assistance, use the appropriate official emergency procedure or local services.

What to tell support

Privately report model, firmware, GPS status, signal bars, Ready/Searching message, test outcome and current account status. Do not post SIM numbers or coordinates publicly.
