Work through these checks

  1. Read Home status

Compare Antenna State with Connection Status. Searching or Waiting for Hub Comm differs from Attempting Login or Offline. Record the exact wording and time.

What the result means: A tracking antenna does not prove modem login or permission to transmit. Read the separate states before changing anything.

  2. Check transmit restriction

On Support, compare Login State and TX State. ONLINE with TxInhibit active can mean a no-transmit zone or restricted area. Preserve that protection; do not bypass it to restore data.

What the result means: Keep no-transmit zones and vessel network configuration intact. Do not reset or open the radome. Send identifiers privately to authorized support, and confirm current service eligibility with KVH.

  3. Prepare a private support record

Support lists antenna, ICM and modem serials plus MTA MAC. The LCD also shows these under System Info > Hardware Information. Record Modem IP from General Statistics for support, without publishing it.

What the result means: TracPhone V3-IP, KVH online help 54-0890. Match the installed ICM; not V3, V3-HTS or the combined Iridium Pilot system.

Common questions

Why does one port work while Wi-Fi asks for a login?

Crew configurations intentionally assign different access rules to ports and Wi-Fi. For example, Crew-1 leaves ports 1–3 unrestricted but requires login on port 4 and Wi-Fi. Dual Dome Secondary has no user access. Ask the vessel administrator which configuration is installed; do not switch profiles to bypass restrictions.

Why are Network Settings fields missing?

When optional CommBox software is enabled, KVH configures ICM network settings over the air; the ICM and myKVH pages do not offer those editable fields. This can be expected behavior. The CommBox login is separate from the ICM administrator login. Keep the installed configuration and consult its administrator.

Can a generic modem configuration file fix an offline system?

Do not install one speculatively. KVH says modem configuration updates should be performed only at its technical support’s direction because terminals can need custom coverage files. Record the current fault and exact equipment IDs, then request the matching files and procedure through authorized support.
