Applies to: For a DStv satellite decoder showing E16, including after renewal or a package change. Streaming-only login problems and E48 signal faults follow different checks.
Match your symptom
| What you see | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Only one channel is blocked | Check whether it belongs to your current package. |
| All paid channels fail after renewal | Check payment allocation and the decoder selected in self-service. |
Work through these checks
Check account and entitlement
Sign in through official MyDStv or your local DStv portal. Check the payment was applied to the correct account and decoder, and that the chosen channel is in the active package. Do not pay twice simply to clear an error.
What the result means: A receipt does not establish that this particular decoder or channel has been authorised.
Keep powered and send one refresh
With the decoder on, use the official Fix errors or clear-error option for E16 and the matching IUC/smartcard number. Follow the waiting time shown. Country-specific USSD/SMS numbers differ; do not copy a number from another country.
What the result means: An error-clear request is an account operation, not permission to alter dish or LNB settings.
Check software and reception if it remains
Use your model’s information/help menu to check software and tuner status. Let an official software update finish. If tuner quality is low or E48 appears too, follow the signal-loss guide and contact an accredited installer for installation work.
What the result means: Menu names vary by decoder. Persistent E16 with an active entitled channel needs account support; repeated resets can obscure the evidence.
When to stop and get help
Stop before roof work, opening the decoder, rewiring XtraView or changing LNB settings. If account, refresh and software checks do not clear E16, contact your country’s DStv support with the saved evidence.
What to tell support
Keep model, country, error, channel, package, payment time, refresh time and tuner/software status. Share payment and IUC details only with official account support.
Common questions
Should I buy a signal meter to clear E16?
Not for an account-entitlement fault. Check the account first. A separate reception problem may need an installer, but E16 alone does not identify a failed part.
