Work through these checks
Let dangerous weather pass
DStv identifies stormy weather and rain as a common reason for E48-32. Record when it began and test again after weather clears. Do not go outside to the dish in rain, lightning or wind. A brief outage during a storm does not by itself prove hardware failure.
What the result means: If the picture returns, no equipment change is needed.
Check decoder-end cable safely
With dry hands and safe indoor access, check that the satellite cable is connected properly at the decoder as DStv advises. Do not inspect rooftop connectors or communal equipment. If the cable is wet, visibly damaged or loose inside a wall, stop and request professional help.
What the result means: A safe indoor check cannot diagnose dish alignment.
Restart once and escalate
If weather is fine and the cable is safe, follow DStv: switch decoder power off at the wall plug, wait at least 10 seconds, then switch it back on. If E48-32 returns, contact DStv with the code, decoder model, weather and results. Ask for the correct installer route before authorising any dish work.
What the result means: Repeated restarts will not resolve a persistent external signal fault.
When to stop and get help
Stop for lightning, wet or damaged electrical connections, roof access, dish alignment or shared distribution work. Contact DStv or a qualified installer if the safe checks fail.
What to tell support
E48-32 code; decoder model; weather and time; cable condition; result after one 10-second power-off.
Common questions
Can rain cause E48-32?
Yes. DStv lists stormy weather and rain as common reasons. Test again after it clears.
Should I realign the dish?
Not yourself. DStv’s first steps are weather, decoder cable and power cycle. Persistent faults need its support or a qualified installer.
