DM900 ultraHD black screen: check HDMI OUT first

Separate the television connection from a satellite reception fault on a Dreambox DM900, without resetting channels or changing dish settings.

Applies to: Read DM900 ultraHD on the receiver. Check the fitted tuner: the manufacturer lists dual DVB-S2, dual DVB-C/T2 and triple variants. The case alone does not identify the reception system. Do not use DM920, ONE or TWO firmware or assume that a cable-only tuner receives a satellite dish.

What you seeWhat to do next
No receiver menu on the TVCheck the HDMI path below. Do not start with a channel scan: you cannot judge broadcast reception until the receiver can display its own menu.
Menu works but a channel is blankThe display path works. Identify the tuner and distinguish an unavailable or encrypted channel from loss of the installed antenna feed. Preserve the current configuration.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm the receiver is awake

Use normal power/standby control and observe the front display. Check the television independently with its own menu. If the TV itself cannot display a menu, investigate the TV first. If the receiver shows no power response, this HDMI checklist cannot establish the power fault; use the matching power-supply support route.

What the result means: TV and receiver respond: trace the HDMI cable next.

  2. Use the output socket

Stop recordings and disconnect power before accessing the rear. Read the embossed labels, rather than guessing from the socket position. Connect the TV cable to HDMI OUT. HDMI IN is for an external source. Reconnect power only after cables are secure. Leave the antenna cable and tuner settings alone during this test.

What the result means: Connected to OUT: select the corresponding television input.

  3. Test a direct TV connection

Select the TV HDMI input actually used and press MENU on the Dreambox remote in receiver mode. If an AV receiver, switch or capture device sits between them, try an accessible direct connection to the TV instead. Change one thing at a time. Photograph the original arrangement so you can restore it after the test.

What the result means: Menu appears: HDMI troubleshooting succeeded; only then investigate missing channels.

  4. Isolate the cable or display

If there is still no menu, try a known-working HDMI cable or another accessible TV HDMI input. Confirm the selected TV input after each change. If another display works, ask about the DM900 video-output settings using that working screen; avoid blind setting changes. If no direct display works despite receiver activity, send Dreambox the test results before attempting firmware recovery.

What the result means: Keep a record of which cable, input and display worked or failed.

When to stop and get help

Stop for damaged power equipment, liquid, burning smell or unsafe access. Do not open the receiver, enter flash-rescue mode, install another image or move the dish to diagnose a black HDMI screen.

What to tell support

Report whether the front display reacts, whether the menu appears through a direct HDMI OUT connection, and the TV input and cable tested. If the menu works but channels fail, report that as a separate reception symptom.

Common questions

Does HDMI IN send the Dreambox picture to my TV?

No. Use HDMI OUT. The IN connector accepts an external HDMI source. The official quick guide labels both sockets separately.
