Dialog OS1203: missing USB recordings or storage not detected

Check the exact Multimedia lists before risking existing recordings with a format or reset.

Applies to: Match OS1203 on the receiver label or STB Information screen. This is the older Dialog satellite receiver with a side USB port and the Multimedia menu shown in its manual. It is not Play Hub 2.0, an app recording service or a Bluetooth-pairing procedure. A manual feature description does not guarantee that every current channel permits recording.

USB is absent or repeatedly failsPreserve the original storage and ask Dialog for an OS1203-specific compatibility check before any erase operation.

Work through these checks

  1. Protect the existing recordings

Stop an active recording or time-shift session with the remote’s Stop key before changing storage. Do not unplug a USB device while it is writing or updating. If the drive contains recordings or personal files you need, do not select Format, delete recordings, initialize it on a computer or restore factory settings. The manual explicitly warns that USB formatting deletes all files; factory default separately erases channels and settings.

What the result means: Do not confirm an erase prompt.

  2. Open the correct list

Press MENU, use the left/right navigation keys to select Multimedia, then OK. First open Record Program List to look for recordings; use Schedule List to inspect future jobs instead. A scheduled programme is not an already saved recording. If you were looking in Music, Picture or Video, return to the recordings list before concluding that your television recordings have disappeared. Follow the on-screen key labels; coloured-key actions depend on the selected application.

What the result means: A reservation and a saved file are different.

  3. Inspect Disk/Memory

In Multimedia, open Disk/Memory to view whether the USB device is listed and what information the receiver reports. This is an inspection step, not permission to select its Format action. Note any capacity, free-space reading or exact error shown. If the menu lists a device but no recording, separate an empty recording list from an undetected drive. The manual does not establish a universal drive size, filesystem or video-codec fix; do not guess FAT32, NTFS or a replacement capacity from another receiver’s advice.

What the result means: Record what is detected without formatting.

  4. Separate playback, schedule and channel access

If the existing list opens, try playing one existing recording and stop it normally. Check the intended programme in EPG and the corresponding Schedule List entry without creating a paid purchase or changing subscription settings. Compare that with whether you can watch the channel live. A channel that cannot be watched needs provider authorization/reception checks first; changing storage cannot unlock it. Do not delete old recordings just to prove that the recorder works.

What the result means: Give support the narrower failure.

When to stop and get help

If storage stays missing, playback fails repeatedly or the disk makes unusual noises, stop before formatting. Give Dialog the OS1203 model, hardware/software versions from STB Information, the USB-detection result and the exact error; keep account identifiers private. State that you need to preserve existing recordings. Do not open the receiver, move the dish, install an unknown USB firmware file or use factory default as a storage repair.

What to tell support

Keep the model, firmware version, displayed USB information, recording-list result and exact error. Do not publish account numbers or private recordings.

Common questions

Will a factory reset restore the recordings?

The manual does not promise recovery. It warns that factory default erases channels and settings, while USB formatting deletes all files. Preserve the drive and seek support before either operation.
