Freesat missing channels: availability, signal and rescan

Check missing Freesat channels without unnecessary factory resets: confirm availability, receiver model, signal and the correct channel scan.

Applies to: Freesat 4K boxes and older Freesat receivers. The menu path below is for boxes matching Freesat’s current instructions; older Humax and Manhattan menus differ. Freeview is terrestrial TV, not Freesat.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm what should be available

Use the current channel information linked from Freesat’s missing-channel help. Search the full guide rather than only favourites. Record any renamed channel or changed number. A scan cannot restore a service that is no longer carried.

What the result means: If the service is available but absent from the full guide, continue. If it is listed but fails to play, record that as reception loss.

  2. Restart the correct box

Freesat distinguishes its 4K boxes from older brands: its guidance uses a five-second hold of the box power button for 4K, and 30 seconds in standby for Humax/Manhattan. Confirm your model before following those instructions.

What the result means: After startup, check the full guide again. A recovered entry needs a playback check too; a guide listing is not the same as a picture.

  3. Read signal status before a scan

On matching Freesat menus, look under Settings → System Information → Signal Strength. Record the displayed readings and compare a working and failing channel. Check only reachable indoor satellite connections using your manual.

What the result means: If reception is missing or unstable, address that first. Repeated channel scans are not a repair for an interrupted antenna feed.

  4. Run the supported channel scan

For a matching 4K interface, use Settings → Freesat Channels → Channel Scan, supply your PIN when requested and choose Begin Channel Scan. Let it finish. If these options are absent, use the exact model manual rather than guessing.

What the result means: Search the full guide and play the original missing channel after completion. Keep any scan error or unexpectedly low channel count.

  5. Check whether the fault is regional or partial

Compare a second missing service and two working ones. Note if only a local news version differs or a wider set is affected. Give support that pattern, especially after a move or a change from another satellite receiver.

What the result means: Wrong regional listings need model-specific region checks. Persistent partial reception needs signal diagnosis, not blind changes to LNB settings.

When to stop and get help

Do not choose a factory reset, delete all channels or change installer settings merely to refresh the guide. Leave roof work and dish alignment to an installer. Shared-building reception faults may need the building manager.

What to tell support

Box model; missing versus unplayable channels; postcode region; signal readings; scan result; working channel examples; recent move or equipment change. Keep your PIN private.

Common questions

Will a scan add every satellite channel?

No. This guide concerns Freesat’s supported channel list. Non-Freesat modes and subscription services have different requirements.

Are Humax and Manhattan instructions interchangeable?

No. Even boxes using the same service can have different menus and reset behavior. Match the model, not just the brand.
