Applies to: Historical RG1100N-0XX WiFi Home Gateway and RG4100N-0XX Home Gateway families from the 2018 datasheet. Match the full label and provider configuration. These are not Gateway 3 or SurfBeam 2+. The linked WiFi user guide applies to the WiFi family; do not apply its wireless setup to RG4100N.
Work through these checks
Match the two gateway families
The OEM datasheet names RG1100N-0XX with WiFi and RG4100N-0XX without WiFi. An RG4100N wireless complaint must include the separate router’s identity. Do not buy a replacement merely because its name includes Gateway.
Distinguish startup from a persistent state
The indoor-unit job aid allows three to five minutes after power-up; brief darkness and changing colors can be normal. Blue steady means online, blue flashing an upgrade; red steady means offline, red flashing a detected fault. Record duration and pattern before requesting help.
Separate internet from local wireless reach
On the WiFi model, compare an already connected Ethernet device with the affected wireless device. If only wireless fails, record location and obstruction differences. The original guide requires a hard surface and three inches of ventilation clearance. USB charging is not the documented Ethernet connection.
Preserve evidence before a replacement
Send the provider the exact label, light timeline and whether one or all devices fail. The WiFi Gateway technician job aid restricts swaps to specified power failures or authorized support direction. A red light alone is not an owner authorization to swap or reprovision hardware.
When to stop and get help
Read-only checks on the existing installation. Leave powered coax, antenna, reset and provisioning alone. Damaged, wet or overheating equipment needs provider help. Keep passwords and account details private.
