TracPhone V3-IP: Wi-Fi, port permissions and local access

A local access difference can follow configuration rather than an antenna fault.

Applies to: KVH TracPhone V3-IP with ICM, original online help 54-0890. Not V3-HTS, V7-HTS, V11-IP or V3-IP/Iridium Pilot.

Crew profiles can require user login on particular ports and Wi-Fi; Static IP reserves port 4 for its service; Dual Dome uses ports for another system. The documented default management IP is 192.168.0.9 in Static IP/Legacy and 192.168.0.10 for Dual Dome–Secondary. Use these only when the installed configuration and unchanged address are confirmed. Legacy is not a supported V3-IP user configuration.

Work through these checks

  1. Read current profile

Read Settings → Network Settings without selecting a different configuration. Crew profiles can require user login on particular ports and Wi-Fi; Static IP reserves port 4 for its service; Dual Dome uses ports for another system. A connector marked Ethernet is not necessarily a public passenger connection.

What the result means: A local access difference can follow configuration rather than an antenna fault.

  2. Check Wi-Fi after changes

If Wi-Fi disappeared after a configuration change, the original help says every ICM network-configuration change turns its built-in wireless access point Off. Ask the authorized installer to check Wireless Settings. Do not change the whole network profile just to restore Wi-Fi.

What the result means: A local access difference can follow configuration rather than an antenna fault.

  3. Identify management address

The name minivsat.kvh is unavailable in Static IP, Dual Dome–Secondary and Legacy modes. The documented default management IP is 192.168.0.9 in Static IP/Legacy and 192.168.0.10 for Dual Dome–Secondary. Use these only when the installed configuration and unchanged address are confirmed. Legacy is not a supported V3-IP user configuration.

What the result means: A local access difference can follow configuration rather than an antenna fault.

When to stop and get help

Preserve vessel configuration, crew permissions, static service and no-transmit zones. Do not swap primary/secondary connections, reset the ICM or open the radome. If only one user is blocked, record the profile, approved port and login prompt before blaming satellite tracking. Current service eligibility needs KVH confirmation.
