Applies to: Thuraya Orion IP, original3500869-0001 Rev D. Not IP Voyager or a handheld XT. Confirm installed software and marine installation; a shared-looking web interface does not prove interchangeable antennas or settings.
Match your symptom
| What you see | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Compare four indicators | Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private. |
| Do not compare unlike signal bars | Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private. |
| Distinguish QoS denial from antenna failure | Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private. |
| Preserve radio-silence protection | Use an authorized onboard interface. Keep at least1m from the side/top of the operational ADU and20cm from the WLAN antenna. Do not open, rewire, alter radio-silence maps, start paid streaming or restart a working link as a test. |
Work through these checks
Compare four indicators
Power green confirms BDU power; GPS green confirms a valid position; the green world-icon light confirms a network connection. Red Fault requires the web status details. Record each separately, including whether the authorized web interface opens.
What the result means: Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private.
Do not compare unlike signal bars
On Status, Signal Quality and Signal Strength need not match. Quality can change as the modem uses different channel types. Compare Network Status and the actual symptom at the same time instead of treating a small bar difference as a repair diagnosis.
What the result means: Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private.
Distinguish QoS denial from antenna failure
Code29 means requested QoS cannot currently be supplied; code30 means invalid QoS parameters. Fixed Rate enabled rejects a streaming connection if its requested rate is unavailable. Record the existing profile for the provider; do not buy or start another streaming session to test hardware.
What the result means: Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private.
Preserve radio-silence protection
Code34 identifies a location in a configured Radio Silence zone. This can be intended operation, rather than a failed terminal. Preserve the map and restrictions; give the authorized installer the code, GPS state and time if the block seems unexpected.
What the result means: Use an authorized onboard interface. Keep at least1m from the side/top of the operational ADU and20cm from the WLAN antenna. Do not open, rewire, alter radio-silence maps, start paid streaming or restart a working link as a test.
When to stop and get help
Use an authorized onboard interface. Keep at least1m from the side/top of the operational ADU and20cm from the WLAN antenna. Do not open, rewire, alter radio-silence maps, start paid streaming or restart a working link as a test.
What to tell support
Record software, GPS/network state, exact code, time and selected session profile. Keep vessel position, SIM details and credentials private.
