Intellian i6: marine TV antenna tracks but channels fail

Separate i6 variant, coverage, receiver/MIM switching and subscription before changing antenna settings.

Applies to: Intellian i6-family 60 cm Ku-band marine satellite TV systems. Confirm the exact variant, LNB, ACU, provider and region. This is not VSAT internet guidance.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm hardware and coverage

The i6 product page separates i6, i6P, i6PE and i6W manuals. The i6W WorldView LNB handles regional changes differently from other variants. Record exact suffix and selected TV provider. Intellian’s support FAQ says buildings, other vessels or onboard equipment may block signal, and quality can drop near a footprint edge. Check from a safe deck position whether the antenna has sky view and whether your service satellite covers the current location. Do not assume every worldwide voyage has the same programming.

What the result means: If coverage is unavailable, antenna adjustment cannot create the missing service.

  2. Separate MIM switching from signal lock

If the antenna tracks but Dish channels or satellites do not switch, Intellian says the receiver’s satellite configuration must match the antenna. For a Dish MIM installation, confirm the MIM has power and note which receiver is Master using the ACU/MIM indicators. Do not change DiSEqC parameters blindly. The support FAQ also names RF1 at the ACU and loose RF connections; inspect only dry, accessible connectors after the system has been safely powered down by the operator. Have an installer check inaccessible or uncertain wiring.

What the result means: MIM is a Dish-specific installation component, not a universal fix for every provider.

  3. Check service compatibility before parts

Intellian says i-Series can receive suitable Ku-band HD services where a subscribed provider broadcasts them, including Dish HD in the U.S. with the appropriate MIM. Its FAQ says U.S. DIRECTV HD uses different hardware and requires an Intellian s-Series system; i-Series can only receive the stated SD service there. Confirm the current service and receiver with the provider. If the antenna cannot lock within coverage or shows hardware errors, send the model, serial number, ACU status and provider to Intellian or its authorized installer rather than buying a replacement LNB.

What the result means: Do not substitute an i6W LNB or another variant’s parts without manufacturer confirmation.

When to stop and get help

Stop for powered RF wiring, radome access, vessel mast work, moving antenna machinery or uncertain regional LNB/skew settings. Use Intellian or an authorized marine installer.

What to tell support

Exact i6 variant and serial, ACU status, provider and receiver, MIM presence and Master, current location, coverage, affected channels and weather.

Common questions

Does every i6 work worldwide without changing LNB?

No. The product page specifically assigns WorldView capability to the i6W variant. Verify the suffix and regional service.

Can an i6 receive DIRECTV HD in the United States?

Intellian says U.S. DIRECTV HD needs its s-Series hardware. Confirm current provider offerings before changing service or equipment.
