SHOUT ts Version B: Outbox, NOC handoff and incoming mailbox

A touchscreen-specific diagnostic path that preserves failed messages and separates radio transmission, server interpretation and scheduled incoming-message checks.

Applies to: Match the original SHOUT ts touchscreen and installed software to 451-92854-001B, Version B, 11 March 2022. This is not SHOUT nano, nano 200 or SHOUT tw coverage. The current manufacturer link sits in a ts/tw download path, but the actual PDF cover and body identify SHOUT ts Version B; the URL is not evidence of a later or shared revision.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the individual Outbox state

In the existing Outbox, << means sending, a red X means failed, and no symbol means queued waiting. This edition gives a queued message a two-minute transmit window before dequeuing it; the failed item remains visible, so its presence does not mean transmission is still running. Record the time and symbol. A message with Inc GPS can also wait for location acquisition; compare the existing GPS and Iridium symbols separately without changing the message.

  2. Locate the handoff boundary

If the existing message is in Sent, this manual says it was successfully sent to a NOC server. Give the monitoring administrator its time, contact/canned-message identity and expected destination to compare with the NOC receipt and forwarding logic. SatTerm contact and canned-message short codes must match the server lookup table. Do not rebuild that table or assume that an example demonstration server is the deployed service.

  3. Observe the incoming-mail schedule

Read the existing Chk Mbox and Mbox Rate states without forcing a check or changing the interval. They are available only when the Iridium link is enabled. Chk Mbox distinguishes Idle from Checking; during download it shows unread Inbox messages and messages still queued at the gateway. Tracking can check the mailbox when sending a position report, while a separately scheduled mailbox check need not send a position report. A dimmed rate label therefore needs its own interpretation, not a broken-radio verdict.

When to stop and get help

Do not press the emergency button, resend, delete messages, change mailbox rates or alter server/encryption settings as a diagnostic shortcut. A successful resend can also trigger other failed Outbox traffic in the manual’s priority order, including non-text events. Preserve that queue for authorized support.

What to tell support

Keep exact model/software, message time and Outbox symbol, whether Sent contains it, GPS/Iridium states, current mailbox state/rate and expected NOC destination. Give sensitive message content, device identifiers and contact mappings privately to the monitoring administrator. Preserve the queue and the configured emergency response path.
