Applies to: Essential HDDSR 600 only, using Shaw Direct Version 3.4 – Galahad GA, last updated 23 October 2012. The shared manual also covers HDDSR 605 and HDPVR 630, but their telephone, UHF-remote, component/optical and PVR features must not be transferred to the 600. The manual names Current Version 08.26 and higher and warns menus can vary. Historical activation, VOD, PPV and support details do not establish current service or upgrade eligibility.
Work through these checks
Identify the actual 600 output path
Note whether receiver menus and TV picture are visible and whether only audio is missing. On 600, do not diagnose an absent optical/component connector as a missing cable: those family-guide features do not exist on this model. HDMI Audio Pass Through does no conversion and the manual notes some TVs then produce no sound; PCM/Auto are documented alternatives, not grounds to alter a working system blindly. Record the current audio setting and TV/home-theatre endpoint for support.
Preserve signal and rights separately
Use OPTIONS →4 →7 to read System Status and Current Version on line H. Capture the available signal and authorization observations with the affected channel and time. Do not infer account rights from a good signal or diagnose the dish from an authorization problem. Stay out of CSS: the manual reserves it for installers and warns that changes can lose the signal. Share the existing report with the account holder/provider instead of refreshing or reconfiguring the account yourself.
Explain missing guide entries
Look at the current favourites/list name shown in the Guide before deleting or rebuilding anything. A favourites list intentionally shows only its members; the manual documents All channels as the unfiltered view. Also note a recent power loss and elapsed time: the old manual describes guide reloading and parental-password prompts while data is absent. Preserve that observation rather than repeatedly resetting or guessing a password. Those historical loading times are not a current service guarantee.
When to stop and get help
Leave dish, coax installation and the CSS menu to the qualified installer; the manual warns CSS changes can remove satellite signal. Do not use repeated resets or parental-password guesses to investigate missing guide data. No recording-drive setup, phone reportback, purchase or account refresh is part of this 600 check.
What to tell support
Privately retain model, Current Version line H, signal and authorization observations, exact message/channel, active guide-list name, timing after any power loss, and the existing HDMI/audio path. Give account identifiers only to authorised support. Keep historical manual timing separate from a guarantee about present guide loading.
