Iridium 9555 not charging: original and USB-C versions

Identify the correct charging version, read the battery symbol and stop before unsafe battery or port repairs.

Applies to: Original 9555 and USB-C 9555 documented separately below. This is not an Iridium Extreme/9575, PTT, GO! or GO! exec procedure.

What you seeWhat to do next
Original charger versionUse the charging equipment specified for your version and a safe, working power source. Watch the battery symbol rather than interpreting a network-registration message as a charging result. The original manual describes a flashing battery symbol while charging and roughly four hours for a full charge when not in use. Do not apply that estimate as a guarantee for an aged battery or a different version.
USB-C versionFor the USB-C version, the quick start guide specifies at least 5 W from the charger for maximum charging speed. A matching connector alone does not confirm charger suitability. Use the supplied or manufacturer-approved equipment; do not force plugs, improvise wiring or repeatedly wiggle a loose port. Ask the dealer to confirm compatibility if the supplied documentation and charger do not match.

Work through these checks

  1. Identify the port

Confirm the handset and charging port before selecting a cable. Original 9555 instructions use the dedicated charger connection; the USB-C version has separate documentation. Do not assume that any USB port on an older handset is the charging connection or substitute 9575/GO! accessories based on the brand name.

What the result means: Stop for damaged batteries, charging ports, antenna joints, water or an unresolved account/PIN problem. Do not open the handset or flash firmware simply because it will not register. Satellite use is subject to local permission and service availability; do not rely on an untested handset as your only emergency communication method.

  3. Check temperature and condition

The manuals specify charging between 0 and 45°C and advise recharging after the low-battery warning. Do not deliberately deep-discharge the battery to troubleshoot it. Stop for swelling, leaks, abnormal heat, water or damaged contacts and ask the supplier for the correct replacement or service procedure. A factory reset cannot repair a damaged battery or charging connector.

Record handset version, message, battery indication, charger/cable used, location/time and result of a normal call. Keep SIM identifiers, PIN/PUK, account details and personal phone numbers private.

Common questions

Does factory reset fix charging?

No reset repairs damaged charging hardware. Preserve the handset settings and confirm the correct charger or a service diagnosis.
