GigaBlue Quad 4K Pro: channels unavailable while recording

Separate a recording-resource conflict from reception failure, and compare the documented one-feed, two-feed or Unicable/JESS configuration before changing tuner settings.

Applies to: UHD Quad 4K Pro with the FBC satellite arrangement described in its 2024 quick-start manual. Menu wording varies with the installed image. This is not a universal configuration for the original Quad 4K, Trio or IP 4K.

Only fails during recordingCompare the affected channel outside the recording window, then inspect feed allocation.
Still fails with no recordingTreat it as a reception or channel-access problem rather than assuming tuner exhaustion.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm the recording trigger

Choose a time when no important recording will be interrupted. Compare the same channel with and without another scheduled recording running; let an important recording finish rather than deleting its timer. Record the exact on-screen message and channel names. If the channel is unavailable even when the receiver is idle, check signal and subscription status instead. A recording-specific failure is evidence to investigate resources, not proof that a tuner is broken.

What the result means: Use the result to choose reception checks or tuner-allocation checks.

  2. Match the installed feed arrangement

Read the manual’s FBC configuration section beside the installer’s wiring record. A conventional single feed has different simultaneous reception limits from two independent feeds. Do not set tuner B as independently connected merely because its menu exists. The documented one-feed example links B to A, whereas the two-feed example assumes a real second cable. Do not copy the manual’s example satellite or switch ports into an installation using different satellites. Change only settings that the installer’s documented arrangement confirms.

What the result means: If the physical arrangement is unknown, stop configuration changes and ask the installer.

  3. Check assigned Unicable/JESS resources

For a confirmed Unicable/JESS installation, compare each configured tuner’s user-band assignment with the installer’s list and the exact LNB or multiswitch model. The manual requires unique SCR frequencies per tuner and documents a connection chain. Its example frequencies are not spare channels for your home. Reusing another tuner’s or neighbor’s assignment can disrupt reception. Ask the installer to correct missing or conflicting allocations. Do not buy a splitter, rescan destructively or factory-reset the box as a substitute for identifying the feed type.

What the result means: Retest the original channel/recording combination after a confirmed correction.

When to stop and get help

Leave roof access, rewiring, multiswitch changes and shared user-band allocation to a qualified installer. Disconnect mains power before antenna/TV cable work; never open powered equipment.

What to tell support

Record receiver suffix, software image/version, exact message, working/failing channel pair, recording time, number of documented independent feeds, and installer-assigned user bands.

Common questions

Does FBC mean every channel can be recorded at once?

No. The installed feed arrangement and tuner configuration determine which combinations are available; subscription access can impose separate limits.
