MarineStar MNB-01: power, crew calls and radio silence

Read the status before reporting a fault. Power, crew-call permissions and geofence policy can produce different symptoms; a failed call alone does not identify a defective antenna.

Applies to: MNB-01 / MarineStar, manual v2.0. Match the terminal label and manual revision before using these checks.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the power indicator

Green means input power is present; flickering indicates low or high voltage. Report flickering to qualified service rather than changing antenna settings.

What the result means: Keep power and signal symptoms separate.

  2. Check who may dial

With crew calling enabled and both admin and captain modes off, only short codes are dialable. Ask the captain to confirm the permitted calling path; do not bypass it.

What the result means: Record the exact rejected call symptom.

  3. Distinguish zone states

Radio silence suppresses transmission inside its configured zone. Restricted-zone entry triggers alerts. Have the authorized fleet operator compare the displayed state and position with its policy; do not disable a zone to test.

What the result means: Preserve the fleet configuration.

When to stop and get help

These are observations for an authorized support handoff. Do not open the terminal or change fleet, SOS or administrator settings.

What to tell support

Save the terminal label, manual revision, power light and exact displayed state. Share account and vessel identifiers privately with authorized support.

Common questions

Why are incoming calls rejected during data use?

In MNB-01 manual v2.0, GmPRS > Auto reject controls incoming-call rejection while a GmPRS connection is active. Have the authorized administrator compare that setting with the time of the missed call. Do not stop another crew member’s session or change the policy as a casual test. If calls fail outside data sessions too, give support both observations; this setting alone does not explain every failure.

Is MarineStar an onboard broadband router?

Thuraya lists circuit-switched voice, SMS and GmPRS for MarineStar. Its analog phone/PBX extension and optional SatTrack service do not establish Wi-Fi broadband or a bundled tracking subscription. Identify the installed terminal and purchased service before treating a missing feature as a fault.
