Original SatDOCK9555: separate connection errors, muted audio and USB priority

Use the exact Rev02 manual to distinguish the dock’s Mute LED states and its two computer-data interfaces.

Applies to: Only original SatDOCK9555 with Iridium9555, USRMAN004502 revision 02 March 2010. Historical serial/USB and service descriptions do not promise current support.

Work through these checks

  1. Identify the connection-error pattern

Rapid red flashing on Mute means incompatible handset or connection error. Read the dock label, confirm Iridium9555 and record Phone Information firmware; printed page 25 specifies 9007 or later. This is not evidence that the external antenna or account is defective. Give the installer the exact pattern and version without reseating powered equipment or applying an obsolete upgrade.

  2. Separate mute from the selected audio path

Steady red Mute means the outgoing microphone is muted. Slow orange flashing is Earpiece-Jack mode, which uses a handset or earpiece in the phone’s 2.5 mm socket instead of the external speaker/microphone. With the optional RST970, lifting it from its cup also diverts audio away from hands-free. Record the selected endpoint before diagnosing a silent speaker as radio loss.

  3. Check which computer-data interface owns the phone

Mini-USB beneath the cradle has priority over the HFI DB9 serial interface. If serial software cannot communicate, first record whether USB is already in use; do not disconnect another application without its owner’s approval. Printed page 30 documents 19200 bps default,8 data bits,no parity,1 stop bit and hardware flow control. Compare existing settings without sending AT changes. The 2010 USB-driver list is historical and does not establish support for a current computer or active data service.

When to stop and get help

Stop for heat, damaged connectors or repeated power cycling. Do not change vehicle wiring, antenna cables, firmware or AT settings. Do not interrupt an operational call or tracking application to test a port.

What to tell support

Privately retain dock/HFI identity, handset firmware, exact Mute pattern, selected audio endpoint, occupied USB/DB9 ports, existing serial settings and the separate handset registration message. Preserve tracking and account configuration.
