VesseLINK Rev B: why data uses satellite instead of WAN

Check the actual data route, external modem power and the Rev B Any setting before changing the vessel configuration.

Applies to: Only menus documented in PN 84469 Rev B, September 2018. Compare the installed manual first. Later revisions use different routing controls; this is not a universal VesseLINK 200/700 or MissionLINK procedure.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the current route

Open the local Dashboard. Record Data Route (Satellite or WAN), WAN Connection and Current Alerts. Portal access alone does not establish internet access.

What the result means: Satellite shown while WAN was expected: continue with external-device power and routing evidence.

  2. Check external modem power

The Rev B WAN port supplies no PoE. The attached modem needs its own power and a working internet connection. Check its status using the approved vessel procedure; a cable alone is insufficient.

What the result means: Unpowered or offline modem: ask the administrator to restore that device before changing satellite settings.

  3. Compare the Rev B route setting

Settings → Data lists Any, Satellite and WAN Port in Rev B. Any is the automatic mode: WAN internet is preferred, then satellite fallback. Ask the administrator to compare the displayed setting with the intended policy; do not switch it just to test.

What the result means: Send the manual revision, selected route, modem status and exact alerts to support. Voice remains on Iridium regardless of WAN data routing.

When to stop and get help

Routing changes can use paid satellite data. Leave changes to the vessel administrator. Do not factory-reset, interrupt operations or test distress functions.
