PotsDOCK 9555 Rev 10: unavailable POTS and audio paths

Identify which phone or headset owns the audio before treating an unavailable POTS phone as a satellite fault. Record the dock indicators, handset registration and selected audio path separately.

Applies to: PotsDOCK 9555 (9555PD), original Iridium 9555, USRMAN004710 Revision 10 (August 2018). Not IntelliDOCK or PotsDOCK Extreme. The historical manual does not verify newer USB-C phone compatibility.

Work through these checks

  1. Map the current audio path

Write down whether the complaint concerns the POTS telephone, privacy handset, Bluetooth device or the docked phone. Note which device was being used immediately before the failure. If one path works and another does not, keep that comparison: it helps distinguish routing from the shared satellite link without making additional paid calls.

What the result means: Keep model/version, exact light color and blink behavior, handset display, attached audio devices and fault time in one private support record. Note what changed; do not publish subscriber identifiers.

  2. Check privacy-handset ownership

Revision 10 states that the POTS interface is unavailable while the privacy handset is in use. Observe whether that handset is out of its cup and whether an existing call is active. Do not interrupt someone else’s call or change wiring to clear the symptom. If the behavior disagrees with the actual connected hardware, give the installer that discrepancy.

What the result means: Use an already installed system at a safe stationary location. Stop at damaged connectors, heat or unknown wiring. No forced docking, protection bypass or live antenna-cable changes. Keep existing calls and operational services intact while collecting evidence.

  3. Distinguish mute, routing and contact

Record the Ring/Mute indication with its exact color and blink pattern. Constant and flashing indications are not interchangeable. Compare the same moment with the handset display and known attached audio devices; do not repeatedly hold buttons or reconnect accessories without knowing which mode will change. A dock communication symptom needs a different support question from one-way audio.

What the result means: Keep model/version, exact light color and blink behavior, handset display, attached audio devices and fault time in one private support record. Note what changed; do not publish subscriber identifiers.

  4. Confirm service before changing the dock

Record the phone’s registration state and exact busy or restricted message. Ask the airtime provider about the applicable dialing rules and account restrictions. Preserve dock configuration for the installer to review; an unavailable account will not be repaired by changing audio settings. For intermittent problems, record whether the symptom follows a particular audio device, location or vehicle-power event.

What the result means: Keep model/version, exact light color and blink behavior, handset display, attached audio devices and fault time in one private support record. Note what changed; do not publish subscriber identifiers.
