V7-HTS Rev D: one LAN fails, tracking or modem offline

Interpret a failed local route on the archived V7-HTS using the installed HTS profile, named status indicators and preserved logs.

Applies to: TracPhone V7-HTS with ICM, exact 54-1220 Rev D, copyright 2020. Not V7-IP or V3-HTS. Unlimited LAN and High-speed LAN below are the archived manual’s network names, not current airtime offers. Confirm installed software and present service separately; historical portals or KVH Link content are not promised available.

Work through these checks

  1. Identify the installed route and profile

Read the installed profile without selecting Edit. Page 71 places port 1 on Unlimited LAN in all three listed profiles. Standard HTS places ports 2–4 and Wi-Fi on access-controlled High-speed LAN. Static IP HTS keeps ports 2–3/Wi-Fi there but reserves port 4 for accessories; Open Access HTS removes high-speed user access control and also reserves port 4. Compare existing client and administrator records, not a port-swap experiment. Page 72 says these separate LANs must not be interconnected.

What the result means: One route can behave differently because its installed role and access policy differ. An administrator must confirm intended permissions and current service before a hardware diagnosis; this is not a bypass route.

  2. Separate antenna tracking from modem login

Read CONTROL UNIT, ANTENNA and MODEM by name. CONTROL UNIT green reports an operational ICM; ANTENNA green reports satellite tracking. Flashing green ANTENNA can mean search, waiting for modem communication or software processing, not one unique fault. MODEM green means logged into the service; orange means offline. Preserve exact warning/error text before assigning a cause.

What the result means: Antenna tracking does not prove the modem is online, and flashing green ANTENNA does not uniquely diagnose search or a failed motor. Preserve the simultaneous named states and software/update context; do not interrupt an active update to force a clearer indication.

  3. Preserve the current log before destructive choices

On Support → System Logs, View/Save Operational Log opens the current file for private preservation (pages 138–139). Start New Log deletes it; Restart System, Start New Log deletes it and restarts the antenna. Use only the existing view/save path, not either replacement option. Event Log is a historical record of antenna warnings/errors; compare the original time rather than treating every retained event as active. Keep complete files for authorized support.

What the result means: Support receives the original route, simultaneous system states and preserved history. No restart or fabricated new incident is needed to replace missing evidence.

When to stop and get help

Do not swap ports, bridge the two LANs, change profiles, quotas, passwords or Wi-Fi, create traffic, place calls, start a new log, restart or update for this check. Do not move or open the antenna. Unresolved faults belong to the authorized provider or marine technician; preserve active safety communications.

What to tell support

Privately retain antenna/ICM/modem identifiers, installed versions, original time, client port/profile, exact lamp names/patterns and warning text. Preserve original logs and separate historical events from the current symptom; redact addresses, coordinates, user identities and credentials from public copies.
