Applies to: Original Thuraya SeaStar System User Guide, with 2016 Westone Communications copyright. No separate printed revision or hardware model number was identified; do not infer one from the PDF title or another terminal. This is not MarineStar MNB-01. Match the installed SeaStar and version; the legacy manual is not a promise of current service, coverage or replacement compatibility.
Work through these checks
Read registration separately from GPS and initialization
Read the Home screen’s Network line and Phone Status symbols without changing settings. The original distinguishes modem initializing, modem initialized, CS voice registration and signal strength, with GPS coordinates in another line. If already accessible, About SeaStar → Status adds service/mobile-network state and version information. Record the exact observed stage; a GPS position or initialized modem alone does not establish voice registration.
What the result means: Support can distinguish a registration-stage problem from a registered terminal with an incoming-service symptom. Preserve the original screen and timing rather than restarting, changing SIM or treating GPS as a satellite voice test.
Match the original failure time to GmPRS mode
Use the already observed Phone Status and existing session records to distinguish GmPRS connecting from connected. Printed pages 61–62 say that while SeaStar is in GmPRS internet mode, incoming calls or messages are not received/displayed and callers hear a busy tone. The RJ-45 computer path is separate from RJ-9 handset and RJ-11 analogue voice. Do not enter the dialer, connect a new computer or disconnect data to reproduce this behavior.
What the result means: An incoming busy/not-displayed event during known GmPRS operation fits a documented mode restriction, not proof of a failed antenna or handset. It does not prove that an unreceived SMS was later delivered. Give support the timing and original mode without terminating useful communications.
Keep contact restrictions distinct from a general outage
If the existing history shows that only particular callers/messages were affected, preserve any already known Black & White List mode. The guide describes an allowed-contact list and blocked-contact list; when enabled, the menu can show intercepted call/message records. Read those records only if already authorized and visible, without entering unknown passwords, enabling/disabling a list or changing entries. Do not call another number or send a message to compare.
What the result means: A matching existing restriction record is a narrower finding than all-call registration loss. Unknown list state remains unknown; absence of a visible record does not prove no restriction. Give authorized support the original mode/contact context while preserving safety and tracking contacts.
When to stop and get help
Stop before any session start/stop, password or PIN guess, SIM handling, reset, firmware update, list edit, alert/tracking change or antenna/cable work. The original warns against changing advanced GmPRS APN/dial/address settings. Preserve the exact original state and ask qualified marine support about unresolved service or installation faults.
What to tell support
Privately record SeaStar/version, original time and time-zone display, exact Network/Phone Status, GmPRS state already observed, affected endpoint and whether all or only particular contacts were affected. Preserve already visible restriction records. Keep IMEI, ICCID, phone numbers, contact lists, GPS and tracking history private.
