X5-Touch Rev 1.0: SIM roles, location and data route

Use the original X5-Touch interface to distinguish existing satellite/GSM assignments, location-pending messages and the intended call or data network.

Applies to: Thuraya X5-Touch, original User Guide Rev 1.0, copyright 2019, 72 pages. Not XT-PRO DUAL, Thuraya One or SatSleeve. These historical interface observations do not confirm current SIM/roaming agreements, Android app support, coverage or activation.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the existing SIM and data assignments

View Settings → SIM cards without tapping the SAT/GSM or Mobile data switches. Record which existing SIM role is SAT and which is GSM, and whether Mobile data is already assigned to Thuraya GmPRS or terrestrial 4G/3G/2G. The manual permits network swapping without physically moving cards, but that operation restarts the phone; it is not a diagnostic viewing step.

What the result means: The recorded route determines which service the failed action used. Terrestrial data or a GSM call does not establish satellite readiness, even on a dual-mode handset.

  2. Distinguish location pending from satellite signal

Read the current widget and notification bar. Flashing Location update… with the satellite signal icon means location information required for satellite use is still being acquired. Page 63 also identifies Position too old as location updating. Record the exact wording and original timing; do not force SAT registration, restart or interpret GSM signal bars as proof this location stage completed.

What the result means: A visible satellite signal and completed location are different evidence. Preserve a pending-location message rather than treating it as proof of a failed SIM or changing configuration.

  3. Compare the original call preference and data route

For the already affected contact, view any existing SAT/GSM preference icon without changing it. Pages 18–20 distinguish blue SAT and green GSM call choices; a saved preference can choose future calls to that contact. Separately read the existing Mobile data route and any GmPRS-active or circuit-switched-data icon. Do not call, enable data or tether a computer to prove the route.

What the result means: Support receives the intended call network, separate data selection and exact readiness state. Current roaming permission or app compatibility remains a provider/support question, not something established by a successful action on the other network.

When to stop and get help

Do not swap network assignments, toggle SIM/data, force SAT registration, change a contact’s preference, enter PIN/PUK guesses, reset or update software as a trial. Swapping networks restarts the phone in this manual. Preserve working communications; damage, persistent service errors and current eligibility need authorised service/provider support.

What to tell support

Privately retain model/edition, original time, current SAT/GSM roles, Mobile data route, exact widget/icon/error and the original contact preference if relevant. Separate an observed SAT call, GSM call and data action. Keep SIM, contact, location, IMEI and account details out of public reports.
