V7-IP Rev B: tracking, modem login, voice and original logs

Read the original V7-IP’s separate antenna, modem and phone states, then preserve the current operational and historical event logs without restarting or creating traffic.

Applies to: KVH TracPhone V7-IP with Integrated CommBox Modem (ICM), original 54-0898 Rev B, copyright 2013. Match the antenna, ICM and installed software. This is not the older V7 with separate modem, V7-HTS, V3-IP or a V30. Historical mini-VSAT service, voice accounts and portal instructions do not establish present availability or compatibility.

Work through these checks

  1. Separate antenna tracking from modem login

Read Home → My VSAT: Connection Status and Antenna State are different fields. Rev B distinguishes Waiting for Hub Comm, Attempting Login and Online; Support → General Statistics adds Login State (Online, Offline or Waiting for hub reply). Compare these with the already observed failure time. Record any existing no-transmit indication without disabling a zone, changing satellites or moving the antenna. A page that loads locally does not prove the modem is logged in.

What the result means: Tracking with modem login still waiting is a different finding from an antenna that is searching. Support receives both stages and safety-zone context; do not bypass a no-transmit condition or classify every waiting state as a failed antenna.

  2. Read voice registration and the affected line separately

Read My Phone and the original Line 1/Line 2 state. Online & Ready describes voice service; Available, Dialing, Off Hook, Ringing, In Use and Unavailable describe line state. Rev B says Unable to Connect to Voice Service can reflect an account/activation error but also appears during system startup. Record the original timing and exact wording rather than inferring an account failure from one startup screen. Do not place a call, enter diagnostic dial codes or restart the MTA for this observation.

What the result means: A busy or off-hook line, voice registration still starting and persistent service-registration failure are different reports. Internet or antenna status alone does not establish voice readiness. Give the actual provider the exact state and original chronology while preserving live calls and account settings.

  3. Save the current log without starting a replacement

Under Support → System Logs → Operational Log, use only View/Save Operational Log to preserve the existing file. Rev B says Start New Log deletes the current log, while Restart System, Start New Log also restarts the antenna. Event Log is a separate historical record of antenna error messages; read it with the failure time, not as a list of faults necessarily active now. If no current log exists or saving fails, record that instead of starting a new capture or restart.

What the result means: The support report retains the original observations and a log whose provenance is known. A historical event can explain chronology without proving a current fault; replacing the log or restarting before preservation would change the evidence. Keep the file and equipment identifiers private.

When to stop and get help

Stop before changing a zone, port mode, credentials, account or session. Do not restart ICM/MTA/antenna, select Start New Log, calibrate, update, commission or open equipment. Preserve ongoing communications and RF safety boundaries. Persistent faults or current service eligibility require qualified KVH support; a historical ready state is not present service certification.

What to tell support

Privately record exact V7-IP/ICM revision and software, fault time/time zone, Home/Support state wording, affected line and original log filename/time. Support identifies antenna, ICM and built-in modem serials plus MTA MAC separately. Keep these identifiers, addresses, vessel position, callers and log contents private.
