SRT 7009: USB recording or Timeshift not working

Check recording software, drive format, power and timer mode before formatting or replacing storage.

Applies to: SRT 7009 only. Manual revisions and optional recording software differ by language/market; the receiver is listed as end of life. Confirm current upgrade availability with STRONG rather than assuming an old download or paid feature still exists.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm the recording feature

Check the software version and the recording section of the matching language manual. STRONG distinguishes shipped USB multimedia playback from recording/Timeshift software. If recording menus are absent, ask STRONG whether the correct upgrade is still available for this exact unit; do not format storage to fix a missing software feature.

What the result means: Avoid an unsupported firmware upgrade merely to test a drive.

  2. Check storage without erasing it

The manual specifies FAT/FAT32 and a fast USB 2.0-or-better storage device for recording. Review partitions, total/free space and Timeshift allocation in DVR Configure when available. Keep existing files backed up. NTFS or exFAT support should not be assumed. An unreadable format is not proof that the drive is broken.

What the result means: Format deletes all data on the selected device or partition.

  3. Check drive power and a short test

The documented USB output is 5 V/800 mA. A hard drive requiring more needs its compatible external supply; do not buy or connect an arbitrary adapter. Once support and format are confirmed, make a short recording of a known working free-to-air channel and play it back. Stuttering can involve write speed or power, not only dish reception.

What the result means: USB operation and bus-power compatibility are not guaranteed for every drive.

  4. Check timer mode and tuner limits

In an EPG-created timer, verify Mode is Record rather than only viewing the programme, and check channel, start time and duration. The manual restricts channel changes during recording to the same transponder. Find completed files in HBDVR. A missing recording on another transponder is not fixed by rescanning the dish or installing a splitter.

What the result means: Preserve existing channels and installer settings.

When to stop and get help

Stop if the USB port, supply or drive is damaged or hot. If the required upgrade is unavailable, ask STRONG for supported options rather than experimenting with firmware.

What to tell support

Record software version, available recording menus, drive model/format/free space, its power arrangement, timer Mode and test result. Do not publish private recordings.

Common questions

Will formatting enable recording?

No. A compatible format does not install the required recording software. Confirm the feature first and protect your files.
