Work through these checks
Check the indoor phone settings
Check the ringer volume or silent switch and the indoor plug. Use the telephone’s manual to select tone dialing rather than pulse dialing; do not alter satellite configuration. If cordless, also check its own base power and handset charge.
What the result means: A silent setting is not a satellite reception fault.
Hang up all other extensions
Seat unused handsets fully in their cradles. The legacy guide identifies an off-hook extension as a possible cause of low volume. All connected phones use the same number and only one call can be active at a time. Do not use the Flash key to test: without call waiting it can end the call.
What the result means: Check audio with one ordinary, consenting contact.
Check ringing load and incoming number
The guide sets a combined maximum of 5 REN across the connected telephones; read labels rather than assuming every phone has the same load. If practical, compare ringing with one compatible indoor phone and unused indoor extensions unplugged. Ask the provider to confirm the incoming number and active service if it still fails. Calls may incur charges.
What the result means: Do not disconnect installed outdoor or power wiring.
When to stop and get help
Stop if a safe indoor comparison does not help. Damaged wiring, storms and work on installed satellite components require the provider’s authorized technician.
What to tell support
Record which phones ring, their REN labels, whether outgoing calls work, whether audio changes with extensions on-hook, and the time of the test. Do not publish your phone or account number.
Common questions
Can each extension make a separate call?
No. The manual describes one shared number and one call at a time, even when several indoor telephones are connected.
