Work through these checks
Check the indoor telephone plug
In dry, safe conditions, check that the telephone cord is connected to the installer-designated indoor jack and the handset is connected to its base. Compare with the telephone’s own manual. Do not open junction boxes or inspect roof cabling.
What the result means: A silent handset does not identify which installed component failed.
Compare another compatible indoor phone
If an already compatible telephone is available, compare it at the same accessible jack. Hang up all extensions first. If one phone works and another does not, investigate the indoor phone or its cord before assuming a satellite outage.
What the result means: Do not buy replacement equipment just to perform this comparison.
Separate dialing from service failure
With a dial tone, use the dialing format supplied by your provider and a consenting non-emergency contact. The legacy system pauses after dialing; # starts the call without that pause. A busy/reorder tone can also mean unavailable capacity or unregistered service. Retry once later, then ask the provider to check activation and local Voice and Data service. Airtime may be charged.
What the result means: Never call emergency services as a test.
When to stop and get help
Stop for damaged wiring, heat, water, storm conditions or inaccessible outdoor equipment. Ask the service provider for an authorized installer; these checks do not establish that the radio unit or grounding is safe.
What to tell support
Record the model, service provider, date/time, exact tone, whether another indoor telephone behaves the same way, and any recent power outage or building work. Keep account numbers private.
Common questions
Does power prove satellite service works?
No. The manual separates a powered unit from a unit that can connect to the network. Account and radio checks may still be needed.
