Applies to: Iridium Pilot using the actual BUG1401 manual cover: Version 4.1, effective September 2014, updated 1 July 2020. The distributor listing’s version label does not replace that cover. Iridium currently labels Pilot discontinued, without establishing a retirement date or network closure. This page does not promise current activation or transfer procedures to a different OpenPort, Certus or Pilot Land Station installation.
Work through these checks
Separate local access from satellite readiness
Use the installed, owner-known IBSU web address. The manual’s factory example is 192.168.0.1, but an installed address may differ; do not reset it to reach the page. Status lists signal strength, SIM, GPS, satellite connection and voice-line state. Its pages do not update dynamically: a normal browser refresh updates the local snapshot. Keep the time with the observation and do not create external traffic to test readiness.
What the result means: A reachable local page with an unavailable or denied line is different from an unreachable local interface. Preserve that branch before asking for account or network changes.
Keep reception and each provisioned line distinct
Record Power, Signal and GPS by name, then data and voice 1–3 separately. The original line table distinguishes amber access denied from red SIM problem, green provisioned and flashing activity; off can have startup or off-hook context. Use the accompanying GUI state before concluding a line is absent. The manual contradicts itself on the Status lamp’s amber/green idle mapping, so leave that particular interpretation unresolved and report its actual appearance.
What the result means: Reception, a SIM problem and an access-denied line are different findings. Do not treat an unused voice port or disputed Status colour as proof that the whole terminal has failed.
Preserve the denial reason and equipment identity
For an amber data/voice line, retain the full GUI reason rather than only “Access Denied”. The original separates IMSI invalid, Authentication Failure, IMEI Blacklisted, Indeterminable Location and Restricted Area; these are different provider questions. Diagnostics supplies equipment ID, MAC/IP and hardware/firmware revisions, while Counters supplies voice/data usage. Use only authorised ordinary views; administrator-only antenna arrays and survey tools are not required to gather this report.
What the result means: Support receives an exact line, denial and hardware/software context without a new call or data session. A historical denial category is not a present activation decision, and a counter increase is not proof of the intended application’s success.
When to stop and get help
Stop before network reset, SIM access, provisioning, password changes, firewall/port changes, antenna utility or survey/test modes. Do not open covers, disconnect ADE/BDE cables or alter power wiring. Take persistent denials and exact identities to the provider; preserve existing sessions and settings.
What to tell support
Privately record the local-page time, exact named LEDs with steady/flashing state, affected data or voice line, SIM/GPS/satellite/line status and full denial text. Add equipment and firmware identity from Diagnostics; Counters contain voice/data usage, not a guarantee of successful delivery or the final invoice.
