EXPLORER 500 Rev R: Dashboard access, service and usage totals

Separate original EXPLORER 500 Dashboard access from SIM-dependent service and active data, then interpret stored usage totals without clearing counters or creating traffic.

Applies to: Original EXPLORER 500, manual TT 98-122274-R, 18 December 2008. This is a historical 500 record, not EXPLORER 300, 510, 700 or 710. Match the installed label and software; the original interfaces and provider names do not establish present airtime eligibility, coverage or modern driver support.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the local page without treating it as service proof

Read the already reachable Dashboard and installed software/serial information. Rev R permits viewing Dashboard without inserting a SIM, while online service and settings require a SIM. Therefore a local page response does not prove that a subscriber identity is readable or that service is registered. Record the existing screen only; do not remove/reinsert a SIM, enter a PIN, upload software or change an address to make another page available.

What the result means: A working local console narrows the local-access question; it cannot decide activation or SIM faults. Give support the exact page result and installed identity rather than starting a paid session or assuming that a visible Dashboard proves coverage.

  2. Match Status to existing session evidence

Read Properties Status exactly, such as Registering, Ready or Data active, and note whether it comes from Dashboard or the physical display. Read the existing ONGOING DATA SESSIONS list for profile and IP assigned to each PDP context; ONGOING CALLS is separate. “GPS acquired” can mean a received position is not shown, including before registration. Do not click Start/Stop Standard, a Streaming profile or pointing controls to force a different state.

What the result means: A valid GPS observation, registration and active data context are not equivalent. Compare their original timestamps and exact wording; a local response or Ready label alone does not identify why an application failed, and a hidden coordinate is not automatically failed GPS.

  3. Preserve the counter period and interruption history

Read SESSIONS TOTAL without clearing it. Rev R counts voice and Streaming duration in hh:mm:ss and Standard data in MB, since the last counter clear. It explicitly warns that these totals may not exactly match the airtime provider and that accidental power interruption leaves totals without updates for sessions since the last power-up. Use only already known interruption or clear times; record unknown if there is no reliable history. Do not power-cycle, clear counters or generate a comparison transfer.

What the result means: The terminal counter is evidence with a reset period and possible interruption gap, not an invoice or proof that no traffic occurred. Give the provider original values, units and known history. A billing disagreement or low total alone is not a reason to replace hardware or change the installed data policy.

When to stop and get help

Stop before PIN/password guesses, SIM handling, interface or data-policy changes, pointing, calls or session start/stop. Do not clear counters/logs, reset, update software or power-cycle to investigate the totals. Preserve the current evidence and use the actual provider or qualified support for eligibility, faults and billing questions.

What to tell support

Privately retain label/manual revision, software, local-access result, exact Status and GPS wording, active-session profile/PDP observations and counter values with units. Add known last-clear time, known interruption time or explicitly “unknown”. Keep SIM/IMEI, serial, addresses, location, calls and usage history private.
