FELCOM250/500: Ready light but no internet

Separate satellite tracking from an established data connection, then capture the exact error event. A Ready light alone does not prove that internet data is connected.

Applies to: Furuno FELCOM250/500 in the original shared operator manual linked by Furuno UK, sections7.3-7.6. Check installed software and hardware; this guide does not apply to FELCOM251/501 or FELCOM19.

Capture the event before service workObserve from the authorized handset or ship PC. Preserve service settings, event history and active communications. Do not run the ADE/BDE self-test during service: the manual says communication is disabled. Do not initialize, open equipment or change GPS/network settings as a diagnostic shortcut.

Work through these checks

  1. Read Ready separately from Tx

Section7.3 distinguishes tracking (Ready steady) from detecting/searching. Tx off means not transmitting and can be normal. Record the combination instead of diagnosing a failed antenna from Tx alone.

What the result means: Separate satellite tracking from an established data connection, then capture the exact error event. A Ready light alone does not prove that internet data is connected.

  2. Compare the actual data state

Section7.4 checks D:Connected on the handset and Data connection Connected in the web interface. If those are absent, report that before troubleshooting the PC browser. If automatic retry has stopped after five failures, record that message and ask the SIM provider to confirm data-service entitlement; preserve group settings.

What the result means: Separate satellite tracking from an established data connection, then capture the exact error event. A Ready light alone does not prove that internet data is connected.

  3. Capture the event before service work

For flashing Status1-4, use the web error information. Section7.6 exposes event code, affected location and event detail; give those to the Furuno technician privately. This distinguishes a modem, hub, antenna or handset report without opening the unit or erasing the evidence.

What the result means: Observe from the authorized handset or ship PC. Preserve service settings, event history and active communications. Do not run the ADE/BDE self-test during service: the manual says communication is disabled. Do not initialize, open equipment or change GPS/network settings as a diagnostic shortcut.
