KING Quest VQ4100: no scan, no lock or no picture

Separate an antenna that never scans from one that scans without finding a satellite, and from a receiver that has no picture. Identify the installed power path first. The optional UC1000 replaces the power injector; KING expressly prohibits using both together.

Applies to: KING Quest VQ4100 using the power-injector arrangement in owner manual 21961 Revision C (2015). This is a historical document, not confirmation of today’s DIRECTV channels, account eligibility or receiver compatibility. VQ4100-OE and UC1000 installations require their matching instructions; do not combine procedures.

Work through these checks

  1. No scan: check the identified power path

For the power-injector arrangement only, observe whether its LED is lit and whether the antenna is connected to it. Record the MAIN/AUX labels and existing cable path. An unlit injector and an antenna that scans without a picture are different symptoms; do not begin with motor replacement. If the power path differs from Revision C, use its matching manual instead.

  2. Scan without lock: preserve a clear stationary view

The historical setup requires a clear southern-sky view and says not to move the antenna after scan starts. Inspect accessible obstructions first; a wind-blown branch or weather-related interruption can differ from persistent failure. If a portable antenna must be repositioned, follow the matching setup and safe power sequence. Do not repeatedly interrupt scans or apply this old satellite plan as proof of present service availability.

  3. Scan with no picture: check the receiver path

Verify the powered receiver-to-injector and receiver-to-TV paths against the exact diagram, without rewiring an energized system. Record the receiver model and on-screen error. Ask KING and the provider to confirm the present service/receiver combination before changing dish type, adding adapters or buying equipment. A scan alone does not confirm channel authorization or compatibility.

When to stop and get help

Stop if the injector and UC1000 are both installed, if wiring is wet or damaged, or if access requires climbing. Do not open the dome or change energized connections. Ask the authorized installer to correct an uncertain power arrangement; do not replace parts to work around it.

What to tell support

Record model label, injector or controller identity, receiver model, LED state, scan behavior, exact TV error, weather and obstruction observations. Keep the original settings for support. Do not open the dome or use factory resets as a substitute for identifying the failed stage.
