Thuraya XT-LITE “No Network”

Check coverage and sky view, then use the handset’s SAT registration command.

Applies to: Thuraya XT-LITE within current Thuraya service coverage; not Iridium or a worldwide-coverage handset.

Work through these checks

  1. Check coverage and direct sky view

Thuraya XT-LITE is limited to Thuraya coverage, not the whole globe. In a safe outdoor location, extend the antenna and give the phone direct line of sight, away from tall buildings, trees or mountains. A flashing satellite or location icon means registration/location acquisition is not complete. Wait for it to settle before testing a call.

What the result means: A location fix and satellite registration are prerequisites; neither is repaired by swapping random accessories.

  2. Request SAT registration once

For a persistent “No Network” display with open sky, the XT-LITE manual directs Menu > Network > SAT registration. Follow the phone display and allow it to acquire location. If “Position too old” appears, remain in clear view while the phone updates its position automatically. Do not factory-reset as an initial step.

What the result means: If registration still fails in coverage, ask the service provider to inspect account/SIM status.

  3. Separate SIM warning

For “Insert SIM,” power off and inspect/reseat the card according to the manual. Do not force the tray. Thuraya warns that a wrong PUK can deactivate the card and non-Thuraya SIM roaming depends on a provider agreement. Ask your service provider about SIM activation or roaming rather than repeated code attempts.

What the result means: A SIM error is not solved by aiming the antenna.

When to stop and get help

If outside coverage, if the phone still cannot register in clear sky, or if the SIM/PUK is uncertain, contact the Thuraya service provider. For emergencies, switch immediately to another available channel; do not trust a phone that shows “No Network.”

What to tell support

Common questions

Does XT-LITE work everywhere?

No. Thuraya publishes a regional coverage map; check it and your service plan before treating lack of signal as a fault.
