37STV: tracking state, recorded diagnosis or receiver fault?

Separate the 37STV ACU’s normal operating sequence from an already-recorded diagnostic code and the receiver’s TV output. This guide uses the March 2009 original, including its region-specific installation limits.

Applies to: Raymarine 37STV under User’s Guide 81304-2, March 2009. Match the installed antenna and ACU before applying these observations. European linear-polarization and North American circular-polarization arrangements are separate; historical satellite lists are not current service or coverage approval. Not 45STV, 60STV or another Intellian-branded model.

Work through these checks

  1. Read the operating sequence without changing the satellite

Distinguish SEARCHING, TRACKING and ANTENNA IS UNWRAPPING. The documented sequence returns from unwrapping to TRACKING; record a persistent or repeated interruption separately. During tracking, the center soft key cycles through antenna position/signal detail, NMEA GPS information and the status display. Do not confuse that viewing key with the left satellite-selection key.

What the result means: A completed unwrap and renewed tracking differ from failure to acquire. Position or GPS detail is supporting context, not proof that the receiver can decode the desired channel.

  2. Interpret an existing diagnostic result

Use only a report or photograph already available. On the ACU, code 101 tests antenna–ACU communication; 102/103 concern clockwise/counterclockwise azimuth limits; 104 elevation; 105 the sub-reflector; 106 the LNB. The code alone does not mean failure: retain TESTING, PASSED or FAILED. In the computer GUI, blue is correct operation, green is testing and red is a fault.

What the result means: A failed communication result and a failed mechanical or LNB test point to different service branches. A green GUI marker is an unfinished test, not a successful result. Do not initiate another test or open the antenna to verify it.

  3. Separate receiver output from the installed satellite path

When the ACU is already tracking, preserve the receiver’s full on-screen message and compare the affected receiver with the installation records. In the documented European twin-receiver arrangement, the two-satellite receiver chooses the tracked satellite; the other receiver can watch only channels on that satellite. The European three/four-receiver arrangement also limits reception to the selected high or low band. Circular and linear installations are not interchangeable.

What the result means: TRACKING with one restricted receiver can be an installed distribution limitation rather than loss of antenna tracking. A 2009 channel or coverage table cannot confirm today’s subscription, footprint or tuning data; ask the current provider and qualified installer to assess the recorded evidence.

When to stop and get help

Keep clear of the antenna’s moving mechanism. Do not start antenna diagnosis, move-position commands or a restart merely to collect evidence: those functions can move the antenna. Leave RF connectors, radome access, polarization changes, satellite programming and powered wiring to qualified service.

What to tell support

Share the exact 37STV and ACU identity, installed software versions if already known, original time and state sequence, selected satellite, affected receiver and its full message. Include any existing diagnostic code together with TESTING/PASSED/FAILED or the GUI marker color. Keep serial numbers private when requesting public help.
