TM-5402 M4 Lite: another channel fails during recording

Separate the single-tuner recording restriction from signal loss and USB storage problems. Preserve recordings and existing dish settings.

Applies to: Exact TM-5402 M4 Lite receiver. Do not extend these limits to twin-tuner Technomate models or infer firmware menus from another TM-5402 generation. Existing recordings and timers should be preserved.

Only fails during another recordingCompare transponders and active timers first; do not adjust the dish for a scheduling restriction.
A single recording also failsCheck drive recognition, selected recording device and free space before blaming simultaneous tuning.

Work through these checks

  1. Establish an individual-channel baseline

Wait until your existing recording finishes, or choose a time with no timer active. Tune each of the two intended channels separately. Note whether either already has a reception problem. If one cannot play even by itself, simultaneous recording is not the first issue: use the signal guide with that channel’s details. If both play normally alone, continue to compare their tuning information.

What the result means: One channel fails alone: investigate reception. Both work alone: compare the recording combination.

  2. Compare the transponders

Use the channel information available on your receiver or an authoritative current channel listing. Compare the satellite, frequency, polarisation and symbol-rate details; two channels being on the same satellite is not enough to show they share a transponder. The manufacturer restricts concurrent channel use to the same transponder. Different transponders need separate recording times on this single-tuner model. Adding another USB drive or a passive splitter does not add a tuner.

What the result means: Different transponders: reschedule. Same transponder but failure continues: check a single USB recording next.

  3. Check one short recording without erasing storage

With no competing timer, check that the intended drive is recognised and has free space, then try a short recording on one receivable free-to-air channel and play it back. The product specification lists USB storage up to 1 TB; it does not promise compatibility with every larger drive or prescribe a universal filesystem here. Do not format a drive holding recordings as a diagnostic shortcut. If recognition or playback still fails, ask Technomate about the exact drive and receiver version before replacing equipment.

What the result means: Single recording works: preserve that baseline and review timer restrictions. It fails: report the storage test result.

When to stop and get help

Do not remove USB storage during recording or formatting. Stop for damaged cables, overheating, liquid or burning smells. Leave mains repairs, enclosure opening and dish work to qualified help. Formatting and factory reset are not first-line tests.

What to tell support

Record which channels work individually, which combination fails, both transponders and whether a single short recording plays back. Keep drive capacity and free-space observations for support.

Common questions

Does two-channel recording mean any two channels?

No. The official M4 Lite description restricts them to the same transponder. This is not an unrestricted twin-tuner receiver.
