TRAV’LER SK-1000: search and stow errors

Read the indoor interface’s exact stage and error. Antenna lock, receiver reception, power-off and safe travel stow are different checks.

Applies to: TRAV’LER SK-1000 DISH antenna, 2452238 Rev9 7-20. Not TRAV’LER Pro, SK-3005 or a portable Playmaker. Receiver and current service compatibility require separate confirmation.

Work through these checks

  1. Read search status

Operation page 1 describes Searching and Home EL during acquisition. Asterisks identify satellites found in this 2020 manual; they do not prove receiver authorization or current channel availability. Record the complete display and receiver symptom.

What the result means: Read the indoor interface’s exact stage and error. Antenna lock, receiver reception, power-off and safe travel stow are different checks.

  2. Confirm stow before travel

The documented normal stow command is one POWER press. Wait and visually confirm the travel position from a safe location. Emergency power-off can leave the antenna raised; a dark interface alone is not proof that travel is safe. Do not move with an unstowed antenna.

What the result means: Power-off and stow are not equivalent.

  3. Separate connection and movement faults

Operation page 4 distinguishes ANTENNA CONNECTION FAILED and STOW UNKNOWN (indoor data-cable path) from ANT NOT STOWED and motor stalls. Read the full wording. Inspect only accessible indoor connections safely; persistent faults, calibration or roof obstruction work need qualified service.

What the result means: Keep the vehicle stopped if stow is uncertain.

When to stop and get help

Keep the RV parked. Stay off the roof and clear of moving parts. Do not force the dish, change calibration or enter Installation/Diagnostics menus; the manual reserves those menus for trained professionals.

Common questions

Why does the antenna keep searching for only one satellite?

The Rev9 operation manual, page 2, says a selected manual satellite mode remains in effect until Multi-Sat Mode is selected again. Record the displayed mode before assuming a motor or receiver fault. A single-satellite selection can limit the available programming. Ask the owner or installer to confirm the intended mode and current service; do not change professional Installation or Diagnostics settings.

Does the receiver setup example apply to every receiver?

No. Operation page 3 assumes an antenna lock on the three satellites listed in this 2020 revision and describes Hopper3 or Wally screens. Other receivers can have different menus and requirements. Use the exact receiver manual and confirm present provider compatibility before applying that example; an antenna asterisk is not evidence of receiver authorization.

Can the parking position make acquisition slower?

The Rev9 installation manual recommends a level parking site without nearby trees or buildings blocking the southern sky. It specifies installation within 5 degrees of level, with 3 degrees for best operation, and warns that tilt can increase acquisition time. These are installation limits, not instructions to move a deployed antenna or alter its calibration. If changing the parking site, stow and visually confirm the travel position first. A qualified installer should assess mounting alignment; roof clearance and a clear satellite view are separate requirements.
