IC-SAT100: paired phone, messages fail

Bluetooth pairing alone does not complete RS-SAT100 setup. Check the radio’s required menu configuration and the application’s Connection Settings pairing before blaming satellite reception.

Applies to: IC-SAT100 handheld and RS-SAT100 messaging app. This guide uses Icom America’s Americas support FAQ; IC-SAT100M and regional firmware require their own instructions.

Work through these checks

  1. Identify the radio and software

Confirm IC-SAT100, phone OS, radio firmware and the RS-SAT100 app. Icom describes this as satellite short-message software over the radio’s Bluetooth link, not an ordinary phone texting service.

What the result means: Bluetooth pairing alone does not complete RS-SAT100 setup. Check the radio’s required menu configuration and the application’s Connection Settings pairing before blaming satellite reception.

  2. Check the active Bluetooth device

The SAT100 FAQ allows four devices in the Bluetooth list but only one active device at a time. A saved phone entry does not establish that it is the active connection. Ask the owner before changing a managed setup.

What the result means: Compare saved pairing with active connection.

  3. Complete the app-level setup

Icom America directs users to radio Menu configuration in RS-SAT100 instructions page 2, then application Connection Settings pairing on pages 3–4. Follow the linked matching instructions; do not invent menu values from another radio. If it still fails, preserve the exact error for support.

What the result means: Bluetooth and application setup are separate checks.

When to stop and get help

Preserve fleet, talkgroup and emergency settings. Do not test the Emergency button, reset the radio or remove other users’ pairings. Use the owner’s matching instructions.

What to tell support

Save radio/firmware, phone OS/app version, active Bluetooth device, app Connection Settings state, exact error and time privately for authorized support.
