GPSMAP 67i satellite imagery or map downloads not working

Check ordinary Wi-Fi, the selected Outdoor Maps+ layer, storage and map visibility. Keep map subscriptions separate from inReach messaging.

Applies to: GPSMAP 67i February 2025 v6 manual’s Outdoor Maps+ workflow. Other Garmin models and map products can have different menus, limits and entitlements. Imagery download does not use the Iridium message link.

Work through these checks

  1. Connect to ordinary Wi-Fi internet

Use the device’s documented wireless-network setup. Confirm the network actually has internet access; a Bluetooth phone pairing or a GPS fix alone does not download maps. If Map Manager is missing from the main menu, add it through the documented main-menu customization rather than resetting the unit.

What the result means: An inReach plan does not provide broadband map downloads.

  2. Choose the correct layer and area

Press MENU twice → Map Manager → Outdoor Maps+. Use Add Satellite Imagery for free imagery or Check Subscription for premium maps; do not buy an inReach plan to unlock a map entitlement. Review Layer Information, select the area and choose Download. Compare the estimated size with free storage before proceeding. A smaller relevant area can be more practical than a large download.

What the result means: Do not remove existing maps until their identity and backup are clear.

  3. Enable and inspect the installed map

Use Map Manager → Outdoor Maps+ → MENU → Configure Maps to enable the installed map. View the same downloaded area at an appropriate zoom and review enabled layers or raster brightness if it appears hidden. Confirm the needed area is present before leaving ordinary connectivity; a downloaded map is not a live satellite image feed.

What the result means: A successful download does not test satellite messaging.

When to stop and get help

If network, storage and entitlement checks do not resolve the problem, contact Garmin with the exact map product and warning. Keep existing navigation data; do not factory-reset before support explains its consequences.

What to tell support

Record map product/layer, selected area, estimated size, free storage, network type and whether downloading or displaying failed. Do not share Wi-Fi passwords or account credentials.

Common questions

Do I need a premium plan for every satellite image?

The 67i manual lists Add Satellite Imagery as a free option. Premium Outdoor Maps+ layers require their own entitlement; availability and account details should be checked before paying.
