Confirm your model
Confirm ViP 211z, not 211k, Wally or Hopper. The front power control is behind the door panel on 211z in the Tailgater Pro reference. The linked replacement setup PDF covers several receivers; its generic drawing is not a full 211z port specification.
How it connects
- Compatible installed or portable dish Satellite coax → receiver satellite input
- ViP 211z receiver Receiver HDMI → TV HDMI
- Television on matching input
For a portable antenna, use the antenna model’s own connection order and power requirements. Do not add ordinary TV splitters or assume every Tailgater generation uses the same setup. External DVR USB storage is a separate connection, not part of the satellite feed.
Lights and messages
- Record the exact Attention/Information message; 428, 499 and 873 belong to the published external-drive setup sequence.
- Missing recordings and missing satellite signal are separate faults.
A light is one clue, not a complete diagnosis. Match the indicator’s label and the on-screen message.
Before buying parts
- For 211-series DVR use, confirm a single-disk external hard drive with USB 2.0 compatibility, 50 GB–2 TB capacity and its own power supply. Flash storage is not listed as compatible. Check DISH activation and formatting requirements before purchasing or attaching a drive with valuable data.
These are compatibility notes and official reference links. Confirm the fault and exact part before buying.
