SatSleeve Hotspot · original 2015 guide

Satellite unit used with a separate smartphone and the SatSleeve Hotspot app. Local Wi-Fi/app access, satellite/GPS readiness, voice-alert behaviour and GmPRS data state are different evidence. An associated phone or silent ringtone alone does not establish a failed satellite unit.

Confirm your model

SatSleeve Hotspot only, following the original multilingual guide with a 2015 copyright and no confirmed separate printed revision. The Hotspot uses its stand and a separate smartphone over Wi-Fi. SatSleeve+, earlier iPhone/Android SatSleeves and their physical arrangements are outside this model page. Historical app instructions do not establish current phone/OS, store availability, coverage or activation eligibility.

How it connects

  1. Phone with Hotspot app Local Wi-Fi
  2. SatSleeve Hotspot unit Satellite voice/data path
  3. Thuraya satellite network
Simplified signal path, not an installation or rewiring diagram. Follow the linked manual for power connections, grounding and your exact hardware revision.

The smartphone connects locally to the satellite unit through Wi-Fi and the matching Hotspot app; the manufacturer says call audio is routed through the smartphone. The satellite unit separately needs GPS location and a clear path to the Thuraya satellite. The manual’s optional USB computer-data path is another arrangement, not proof of present desktop-driver support or a Bluetooth link.

Lights and messages

  • The original Home screen distinguishes network name, signal/HPA strength, Receiving GPS-fix, GmPRS initiated, GmPRS active and In Use. Keep the displayed label or icon with its time; Wi-Fi association is not one of those satellite-readiness confirmations. The troubleshooting page also distinguishes an inactive app’s vibration alert from an audible ringtone.

A light is one clue, not a complete diagnosis. Match the indicator’s label and the on-screen message.

Before buying parts

  • The official Hotspot page explicitly includes its stand, and the support page identifies a USB data cable in the package. The original documents an optional computer USB-data arrangement with historical Windows modem steps; that is not a recommendation to install old drivers. A SatSleeve+ phone adaptor or an accessory from a mixed product gallery is not automatically a verified Hotspot replacement.
