inReach Mini 3 Plus

The Plus model adds satellite photo and voice messaging, including a built-in microphone and speaker. Its activation route and recipient type matter when media fails.

Confirm your model

Check the device label for Mini 3 or Mini 3 Plus. Mini 2, Messenger and Messenger Plus have their own controls and guides.

How it connects

  1. Iridium satellite network Clear sky for the satellite exchange
  2. Mini 3 communicator and active plan Bluetooth pairing through the Messenger app
  3. Phone with Garmin Messenger
Simplified signal path, not an installation or rewiring diagram. Follow the linked manual for power connections, grounding and your exact hardware revision.

Phone Wi-Fi or cellular can carry app messages without a satellite exchange. Use the communicator’s Test Device feature outdoors to check satellite service; never use SOS for a routine test.

Lights and messages

  • Service Plan > OK > Test Device > Start Test checks a satellite exchange. Wait for confirmation.
  • A pairing problem is separate from a failed satellite test. Start pairing in Garmin Messenger, not only in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.

A light is one clue, not a complete diagnosis. Match the indicator’s label and the on-screen message.

Before buying parts

  • Use charging equipment specified by the manual, with the port and weather cap dry. Check destination restrictions before travel; coverage alone does not establish permission to use a satellite communicator.
