Hughes 9202 — original, H71552 Rev J

Original land-portable BGAN terminal with LCD/keypad, Ethernet/WLAN data and configured analog or ISDN telephony. Local access, pointing, network attachment and an active data connection are separate stages. This is not the 9202M model page.

Confirm your model

Match the original Hughes 9202 label to H71552 Revision J, April 4 2024. The Support page reports Model, IMEI and Software Version; retain the identifiers privately. Firmware matters: this guide marks some LCD pointing changes at 5.8.3.2 and NAPT support at 5.8.4.1. Do not assume that a 9202M or later terminal uses the same controls or accessories.

How it connects

  1. Computer Ethernet / configured WLAN
  2. Original Hughes 9202 Pointed satellite link
  3. BGAN network
Simplified signal path, not an installation or rewiring diagram. Follow the linked manual for power connections, grounding and your exact hardware revision.

A computer connects locally by Ethernet or an already configured WLAN; the 9202 then provides the BGAN link. Initial configuration is through Ethernet, and WLAN is off by default. The documented Web UI address is http://192.168.128.100 unless changed by the administrator. The LCD can show status without a computer, so compare local-network access with the terminal’s own display.

Lights and messages

  • The GPS icon flashes until a fresh position fix, then becomes steady. The neighboring satellite icons count GPS satellites, not BGAN communication satellites; those icons turn off after an adequate fix when the GPS receiver shuts down. Their disappearance alone is not proof that satellite communication failed.
  • Ready means the terminal is ready for packet-data contexts; Standard on the LCD identifies an active Standard data connection. The globe icon instead reports circuit-switched attachment for calls. Record all three observations separately; the globe is not an internet-session indicator.

A light is one clue, not a complete diagnosis. Match the indicator’s label and the on-screen message.

Before buying parts

  • The documented kit includes an AC/DC adapter and Ethernet cable; the provider supplies the SIM and configuration information. Analog phones use the configured RJ14/RJ11 path, while ISDN needs the separate telephony mode: analog and ISDN handsets cannot operate together. Confirm the exact handset/service and approved supply rather than buying by connector shape.

These are compatibility notes and official reference links. Confirm the fault and exact part before buying.
