Applies to: This checklist follows the manufacturer’s 2019 URC 7140 Essence 4 manual. Check your label and button layout first: URC 7145 and newer Essence products have different instructions. A TV responding does not prove the satellite receiver is supported. Keep the original receiver remote available and note any working codes before changing setup.
Match your symptom
| What you see | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Test SAT mode before programming | If the receiver responds in SAT, preserve its code. Otherwise check the SAT code list or learn a missing IR command from the original remote. |
| Route volume to the sound device | Channels work but volume fails: identify the TV or amplifier producing sound, test its own mode, then adjust volume routing. |
Work through these checks
Test SAT mode before programming
Install four matching AAA batteries with correct polarity. Select SAT, aim directly at the receiver and try its menu and channel buttons. Test TV power in TV mode separately. Combi Control can route different buttons to different devices; test individual device modes first to identify which setup is failing.
What the result means: Do not change the dish or satellite wiring for a remote-control symptom.
Enter a receiver code
Use the SAT code list for the actual receiver brand, not the television brand. With the receiver on, hold MAGIC for three seconds until a blue mode light stays on, select SAT and enter the listed four-digit code. Two flashes acknowledge entry. Test power, then menu, guide and channel navigation. Try another listed code if functions are incomplete; a power response alone is insufficient.
What the result means: Use the official support code finder when the printed list does not match your equipment.
Copy one missing infrared button
Learning requires a working original infrared remote. Place both on a level surface, emitters facing each other, two to five centimetres apart. Hold MAGIC three seconds, enter 975, select SAT and press the destination button on the URC 7140. While its light flashes rapidly, press the source button on the original. Two flashes confirm learning. Hold MAGIC three seconds to exit, then test on the receiver. Bluetooth or radio-only commands cannot be copied this way.
What the result means: Do not change the dish or satellite wiring for a remote-control symptom.
Route volume to the sound device
First configure and test the TV or amplifier that actually produces sound. To make volume and mute use that device across modes: hold MAGIC three seconds, enter 993, select its device mode, then hold MAGIC three seconds again. Test at low volume in SAT mode. This changes volume routing, not receiver pairing. Keep the provider’s original remote for unsupported voice or radio features.
What the result means: Do not change the dish or satellite wiring for a remote-control symptom.
When to stop and get help
Stop if batteries have leaked, the remote is damaged or hot, or pairing still fails after the model-specific procedure. Contact the provider for a compatible replacement. Do not open the receiver or reset its installation to fix a remote.
What to tell support
Record remote and receiver models, battery type, which functions work (channels, volume, power, voice), and the pairing message or light pattern.
Common questions
Can learning replace voice control?
No. This procedure copies an infrared button from a working original remote. It does not add a microphone, Bluetooth pairing or the provider’s voice service. Check the receiver’s accepted infrared commands before buying a replacement.
