Applies to: Garmin Alpha 300i · inReach satellite functions · October 2024 owner manual v3, non-stim edition; satellite functions only, not Alpha 300 or 200i
Work through these checks
01 · Garmin Alpha 300i · inReach satellite functions
Match the exact model, product code and manual edition. Record the existing connections, status indicators and displayed error without changing them. Preserve settings and stored data; do not reset, flash software, format storage or alter wiring as a first check. Keep account details, device identifiers and precise location private.
02 · inReach / Messages / GPS / VHF / Iridium / Garmin Messenger / Garmin Explore / Device / Check Mailbox / SOS
Identify Alpha 300i using the October 2024 non-stim manual v3, not radio-only Alpha 300 or Alpha 200i. For satellite messaging, open inReach > Messages, select an existing conversation and message, then its information tab; record status and time without sending or deleting. GPS reception and VHF collar/contact communication are separate from Iridium messaging. Garmin Messenger can use phone Wi-Fi or cellular data, so an app conversation is not proof of satellite delivery. In the already paired Garmin Messenger or Garmin Explore app, read Device connection status and whether existing data has synced. Confirm the existing inReach subscription with the provider; do not start a new plan. Check safe open-sky placement and keep device IDs, contacts and location private. Do not force Check Mailbox, send test messages or tracks, reset, flash or activate SOS for diagnosis.
When to stop and get help
Do not continue these checks in unsafe conditions. For immediate danger, use local emergency services and the device’s emergency instructions. Otherwise, contact your provider or a qualified technician.
What to tell support
Write down your exact model, service provider and on-screen message. Photograph the existing connections for your own reference before changing anything.
